Nasolabial folds VS Marionette lines

Wrinkles have recently acquired playful nicknames like "elevens," "bunny lines," and "crow’s feet"—perhaps to make them feel a bit friendlier when we spot them in the mirror. But do we really know what these terms mean? The lines on the lower face, especially, can be confusing, with certain creases around the mouth often misidentified. Two specific types of wrinkles often come up in conversation but have distinct characteristics.

The first are “nasolabial folds”, also known as laugh lines or smile lines because they stand out most when we smile. These lines begin at the outer base of the nose, where the nostrils meet the cheeks, and run diagonally down toward the corners of the mouth. The second type, “marionette lines”, is named for the facial lines of traditional puppets. These vertical lines extend from the corners of the mouth to the chin, often giving a downturned appearance. Though they’re seldom called by their official name, “melomental folds,” it’s good to know the technical term.

Like all wrinkles, nasolabial folds and marionette lines become more pronounced with age. They result from repetitive facial movements, decreased collagen and elastin, sun exposure, and the natural reduction of facial fat in the cheeks over time. Adding to this, bone loss in the face contributes to the deepening of these lines. As we age, bone density declines not only in our bodies but also in our faces. This includes slight reabsorption of the jawbone and teeth, which plays a significant role in how facial folds develop and deepen.

Today, a wide range of treatments exists, from noninvasive options to surgical procedures, for addressing these lines. However, the mobility of this area means that overly aggressive or poorly executed treatments can result in an unnatural appearance.

A natural, non-invasive approach to achieving a youthful and sculpted look in the mid- and lower-face can be transformative, especially for those looking to address common signs of aging such as nasolabial folds and marionette lines. These concerns, often stemming from volume loss, decreased collagen production, and gravitational changes, can be effectively tackled using a blend of advanced techniques like manual facial sculpting, intraoral buccal massage, and electrical muscle stimulation.

At Facestellar we have created SNATCHED - Non-invasive mid- and lower-face facelift, including a blend of manual facial sculpting techniques, intraoral buccal massage and electrical muscle stimulation.

Results : Face sculpted, oval reshaped, double chin, marionette and nasolabial folds erased, face slimmed and lifted, jaw redefined.
